42.2 km of supported freedom  to Australia's far north

 
The SKYTRANS Compass Club Northern Edition

LOCATION

Bamaga, Australia’s northern most settlement, is the start line for just the fifth marathon in the Northern Peninsula Regional Council Area.

Located 1000 kilometres north west of Cairns, it will be all hands on deck for the Bamaga community, as the tiny yet vibrant township look to create history in the race to Australia’s most northern tip. Bamaga will host a briefing and welcoming party the night before the history making event, which is hoped will provide life long stories for all those involved in the race. 2022 will see just the second ever 7km Fun Run on the program.

Commencing at dawn on the outskirts of the quiet little town, a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony will herald the start of the race. Competitors will follow the current 4WD track all the way to the rocky outcrop, and race back to Bamaga before the North Queensland humidity really kicks in.

CLIMATE

Bamaga has a tropical savannah climate  with constantly high temperatures throughout the year. The dry season runs from early June to late November. The average temperatures in May for Bamaga are -
Low 24 degrees Celsius
High 29 degrees Celsius

HOW TO GET THERE

If you aren't keen on the 28 hours drive from Cairns to Bamaga, then aviation company Skytrans fly from Cairns to Bamaga six times a week. It is a pleasure to announce SKYTRANS as major events sponsors of this inaugural event.

Skytrans and West Wing Aviation have a long and distinguished history in Queensland. With new owners, strong leadership and a professional crew that aim to please, their airlines take to the skies each day with pride and enthusiasm.

Their  aircraft fleet all boast turbine jet engines, air-conditioning, comfortable seats and generous freight capabilities.

Their services include daily flights from Cairns to the Cape York (Monday to Friday) and Torres Strait islands (Monday to Saturday), Cargo, Mail Runs and Charter Flights.

 

 

 




EVENT ROUTE

Taking tourist and local residents concerns into consideration, both 42.2km and 21.1km events will start on the junction of Pajinka Back Road and Pajinka Road at 6am.

42km Marathon Route -
6AM START
Participants will run from the starters arch just outside Bamaga Airport in a north westerly direction. Competitors will continue along Airport Road for approximately 10km. Competitors will u-turn at the Bamaga Police Station, then run the entire stretch of Pajnka Road, finishing on the beach adjacent to the most Northern Point of Australia, thus completing their 42.2km marathon.

21km Half Marathon Route -
8AM START
Participants will run from the starters arch onto the existing 4WD track in a north easterly direction. Competitors will continue along Pajinka Road for 21km, where they will cross the finish line in the walking trails carpark. Competitors can take the walking track from the walking trail car park, and have their photo taken at the Northern Most Point of Australia.

The SKYTRANS Compass Club Northern Edition will be staged in one of Australia's most remote locations.

The event provides full support for all runners and support and pacing runners, including support and refreshment stations,  and full access to medical specialists.

 

* The standard entry fee for the The Compass Club North 7km Fun Run is $25AUD, which includes a medal and cap.

* The Early Bird entry fee for The SKYTRANS Compass Club North Full Marathon is $100 AUD, which is available until midnight on 01/03/2024. 
* The standard entry fee for The SKYTRANS Compass Club North is $140 AUD,

* The Early Bird fee for the Compass Club North Half Marathon is $60AUD, which is available until midnight on 01/03/2024.
* The standard entry fee for the Compass Club Half Marathon is $85AUD.

Both events are inclusive of -

  • Event staff and medical support throughout the entire event

  • Support stations at Pajinka Road start/finish area, The Croc Tent tourist attraction, the carpark at the northern most point of Australia

  • Finishers line arena facilities and refreshments

  • Shuttle runs by support vehicles transporting runners back to their vehicles or accommodation

  • Unique Finishers Medallions

  • Limited edition Compass Club North event shirt and photograph of you at the Northern most point of Australia

  • Limted edition sun visor
     


Cancellation Policy

If for any reason, a runner needs to cancel their registration, a 75% refund will be provided if event organisers are notified in writing more then 30 days from the start of the event. If a runners needs to cancel their registration within 30 days of event commencement, then a 50% refund will be provided. If cancelling less then 7 days prior to the event, then no cancellation will be provided, due to the fact that we are in transit and setting up for an event in extreme remote location with little to no internet service.

 

 

SIZING CHART

Every competitor will be required to enter their Finisher's Shirt size when registering for this event.
